Brother Tahir
By: Sarah Masoud, 8th Grade Student, Granada Islamic School, Santa Clara, Ca.

When I hear a ‘Yo’ stop talking, The Qurans on
Or a ‘Yo sit down (with a very big yawn)
I know I have reached my Islamic Studies class
If it was any other, I would gladly pass
But this room contains everyone’s favorite teacher
He might be an Imam, but he’s not only a preacher
Full of stories and jokes, he’s our only 45 minutes of fun
When he just begins the lesson, the periods almost done
He’s got tricks up his beard and games up in his Kufi
But he demands respect, and won’t tolerate the class act goofy
When he gets pissed
Out come his beloved yellow slips
But never mind those
He’s a very busy man and after class out the door he goes
Traveling from London, Arizona, to India and even L.A.
I got meetings here and there we would hear him say
He’s chatting to his buddies but also taking notes
Meetings done I g2g he once wrote
He’s an imam with attitude
He’ll come up to you, and be like ‘waddup dude?’
To others, he’s Imam Tahir; ‘What are the five pillars of Islam?’
But to GIS students, he’s Brother Tahir, my main man!!
